Friday 19 June 2009, and Geoff Wilson waves goodbye to the Traffic Regulation Order sign at Gorbeck Lane in the Yorkshire Dales National Park following a landmark judgment in the High Court, ruling that the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority has acted irrationally and without necessary balance of considerations when applying orders in the National Park.

Caution needed! Of the four routes where the TROs have been quashed, only Gorbeck Road has conclusive public vehicular rights at this time. The other three route have public rights asserted, but these may (we do not yet know) have been adversely affected by NERCA 2006. Anyone intending to drive on these routes should first seek advice as to the current status, either from their own motoring organisation, or from the highway authority.
